FREE Digital Literacy courses return, instructed by Chris DiSalvatore from Great Falls College-MSU

Free nine-week course Runs each Monday from June 1 through July 27

Due to popular demand, the Library will provide the set of FREE Digital Literacy course, instructed by technology expert Chris DiSalvatore from the Great Falls College-MSU. You are not required to attend each course, but it is strongly recommended that you bring your own device.

The courses will be held each Wednesday from June 1 to July 27 from 10 am to Noon in the Cordingley Room. No registration required.

Below is a rundown of what each class will cover:

  • June 1: Computer Basics – Windows 11: If you know a bit about using a mouse and keyboard but don’t know your way around using a computer just yet, this is the class for you. Learn how to use a PC (Personal Computer) with the Windows 11 Operating System. Please bring your own laptops, but GFPL has some laptops for those who do not own one.
     
  • June 8: Internet Basics: In this workshop you will be introduced, as newly connected users, to basic terminology, functionality, and navigation of internet browsers, search engines and websites. Please bring your own laptops, but GFPL has some laptops for those who do not own one.
     
  • June 15: Cybersecurity: Learn how to be safer online with accounts/passwords, and an overview of frauds/scams.
     
  • June 22: Email Basics: Attendees will create a Gmail account, learn how to perform basic email functions like send, receive and reply to an email, recognize and deal with spam, organize and delete emails and search for messages. Please bring your own laptops, GFPL has some laptops for those who do not own one.
     
  • June 29: Mobile Devices (Apple Products): This workshop is for those who have a new iOS (Apple) mobile device, or are considering getting one, and want to learn more about the basic functions. It will support attendees to get connected, identify common apps, and build confidence in using their device safely. Please bring your own devices.
     
  • July 6: Mobile Devices (Android): This workshop is for those who have a new Android mobile device, or are considering getting one, and want to learn more about the basic functions. It will support attendees to get connected, identify common apps, and build confidence in using their device safely. Please bring your own devices.
     
  • July 13: Video Conferencing Basics: In this workshop, attendees will learn how to create an account on a popular video conferencing platform (such as Zoom) and build confidence when using features of the platform in an online meeting.
  • July 20 and 27: Open tech, bring your own questions and devices.
