Keep reading, learning, and having fun all summer long with our annual Summer Reading Program!

Summer Reading 2024 starts on Thursday, June 6, Great Falls Public Schools’ last day, and ends on Saturday, August 17.

Summer Reading Challenges

The Great Falls Public Library Youth Services Department will offer four different reading challenges to keep kids and teens reading and learning all summer long! Each book you read counts towards all the reading challenges you are enrolled in.

Summer Reading Rewards

Kids and teens birth to 18 will earn a small prize for every 5 hours they read all summer long! Visit the Kids’ Place Desk to choose your prize from our prize cart.

Each week, readers who have completed 5 hours of reading will be entered in a drawing to win a bigger prize, such as a 3D printed dragon or another premium fidget toy. Visit our Facebook Pageto see each week’s prize!

Rubik’s Cube Reading Challenge

Are you ready for an extreme reading challenge? This June, kids and teens 6 to 18 are invite to kickstart their Summer Reading and earn a high-quality Original Rubik’s Cube from Let’s Play Games and Toys!

Choose your challenge according to your reading level, then complete your reading between June 6 and 30: Chapter book and graphic novel readers will need to read 5 books to win their Rubik’s Cube, while picture book readers will complete 15 books. See Kids’ Place staff to pick up your prize when you have completed all your books. The last day to pick up your Rubik’s Cube is July 13.

Smokey Bear Reading Challenge

Celebrate Smokey Bear’s 80th birthday with a fire safety and nature-themed reading challenge from the United States Forest Service. This outdoor-indoor challenge is perfect for Montana readers of all ages-kids, teens, and adults, too!

Take the Smokey Bear Pledge to help prevent wildfires, read 3 to 5 books about wildfire prevention or the environment, and complete at least half of the nature activities on the back of the sheet by August 17 to earn a special Smokey Bear prize! Visit the Kids’ Place Desk to pick up your prize.

Readers of all ages who earn a prize for their reading this summer are invited to make a free tie dye t-shirt at our Summer Reading Celebration on Saturday, August 17 from 11am-1pm in the Library Park.
