"Watts' conversational style of explaining the Zen lifestyle/mindset shines throughout this title. If you've never studied Zen before, or if you've been practicing for years, you will undoubtedly find something in this title that will speak to you. It's been called "the most explicit and orderly account of Zen Buddhism that has appeared in English." "

"A remarkable read; part coming-of-age story, part mystery, part rumination on the value of a human life versus the value of art. It is also about loss and grief and loyalty. One of my personal favorites."

"A short, character driven novella great for an evening's read. A man is asked by his friend to interview a serial killer on death row because, though she successfully prosecuted him for multiple murders, she now is convinced of his innocence. ...but in a typical Harlan Ellison manner, there is a twist to the story."
